Waqf (Amendment) Bill:
With the Parliament’s Budget Session winding down toward its April 4 close, the government pushed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill into the spotlight for debate and passage in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
The chamber turned into a battleground as the treasury and Opposition benches clashed. The INDIA bloc, standing united, vowed to “sink the legislation” in a fiery showdown.
Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju kicked things off by moving to advance the Bill, complete with its latest tweaks. The floor opened for a heated debate, with Rijiju laying out the Bill’s key points and defending its intent.
First tabled last year, the Bill took a detour through a Joint Parliamentary Committee for a deep dive before landing back in the Lok Sabha’s lap today.
